Citizens will be allowed out for three hours a day only with SMS permission.

The term of the special quarantine regime in Azerbaijan will be extended until 31 January 2021.

The statement came from the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers on 8 December.

According to the information, from 00:00 on 14 December to 00:00 on January 18, 2021, a strict quarantine regime will be applied.

The statement mandates that restaurants and cafes will also close, save for delivery services

In addition, the SMS permission system will be re-applied, and one may leave the house to purchase groceries and medicine, use banking or postal services.

The first case of coronavirus in Azerbaijan was documented on 28 February. From then until 29 October, the daily infection was never reported to have reached a thousand.

Since the end of November, the number of infections has exceeded 4,000. Throughout the pandemic, the Azerbaijani government has been

of using pandemic-related restrictions to suppress opposition politicians and activists.
